The following is a guide to recommended spots for each season.

Spring: Hanami (cherry blossom viewing)

In the spring, Kyoto's temples, shrines, and mountains become tinged in cherry blossom pink. In Japan, people engage in hanami, relaxing with friends and food under the cherry blossoms. As only certain places allow hanami, we recommend consulting the Internet before heading out.
A bike ride or walk can also be a great way to see the cherry blossoms that bloom throughout Kyoto.
