What is attractive about studying in Kyoto?

For me, the surrounding environment is a part of university education.
In this regard, what Kyoto can offer you becomes very important.
I think Kyoto is a special city unlike any other: not only is it comfortable to live in, safe, and quiet, but it’s also a big city.
At the same time, while it is a cultural center, the nature here is also well-preserved.
I think it is invaluable to be able to study in such an inspirational place that reflects both Japan’s present and its past.

How has your impression of Kyoto changed since coming here?

When people think about Japan, I guess they first think about whether Japanese food will suit their tastes or not.
But as you will understand upon coming here, Japanese food is not limited to raw fish and sushi, and it’s very good.
At the same time, one of the great things about living in Kyoto is that you can eat not only Japanese food, but also food from around the world.

Message to students in your home country thinking about studying abroad.

Like in many touristic cities, it’s possible to live in Kyoto using English.
You can use English for transportation, shopping, at restaurants and bars, as well as for many cultural, and of course international activities.
However, as there are many attractions in Kyoto, it’s extremely helpful to know Japanese, not only for interacting with people, but also to fully enjoy the cultural activities, the beauty, and the traditional as well as the contemporary side of the city.
