Study Kyoto Tour: Humanities Tour Experience
2020.01.06
2nd Day
The next day of the tour we all gathered in the hotel lobby at 8 a.m. On the 2nd day, we divided into two groups, the humanities and science courses. For the humanities course, our first destination was Ritsumeikan University Kinugasa Campus. After arriving at Ritsumeikan University, we divided into small groups to let students investigate each of their interests in the open campus event. My group went to the College of Social Science Information Session and the Mock Class at the College of Image and Arts. During the Mock Class, we used actual 3D software to make a model of a house. All of us, myself included, were enjoying the class.
After having lunch at Ritsumeikan University, we got into the bus once more to go to our next open campus. The next destination was Ryukoku University Fukakusa Campus. At Ryukoku University, we decided to join a student-guided campus tour to find out more about campus life. During the campus tour, we were guided by a current student at Ryukoku University, and we were lucky enough to get to see many places inside the campus. We were also impressed because, despite the hot weather that day, the students were very passionate about showing us around their campus.
After completing the Ryukoku University campus tour, we went to dinner at the Sodoh Higashiyama. While eating our dinner, we also played some games, talked a lot about our experiences studying in Kyoto and enjoyed a dance performance from Kyotan Sodefuri. For such a short time we had a lot of fun during dinner.
Last Day
On the last day of the tour, the first place we visited in the morning was Doshisha University’s open campus, held at its Imadegawa campus. At Doshisha University, we had an information session led by the International Student Affairs staff regarding information on the admissions application and how to apply to study at Doshisha University. After that, we attended the Faculty of Global Communication host lecture on university application preparation for international students. In the lecture, we learned about interview manners and how to correctly pronounce our name and school in Japanese, which is very useful for an application interview.
After visiting Doshisha University in the morning, afternoon activities were decided according to what each participant wanted to do. We divided into groups to visit Kyoto Sangyo University, Kyoto University of Advanced Science, Kyoto University of Foreign Studies, Kyoto Women’s University or Kyoto Notre Dame University. Since I was a tour buddy, I was assigned to go with the international students to Kyoto Sangyo University. After arriving, we went to the individual college consultation corner. We spent the whole afternoon at the consultation corner and ended the tour in Kyoto Station. This meant the end of the 3 day tour. I made a lot of friends during the tour and was quite sad on the last day.

Lastly
The participants learned many things throughout the Study Kyoto Tour Experience. For example, it is important to go to the actual university and experience it firsthand. Why? Because when the tour participant chooses their university, choosing a major is of course considered important, but knowing about university life is also important. That is why listening to the experience of our tour buddies and participating in open campuses can help them make the decision.
